  1. For years I have collected doll-size tea sets. I enjoy them and have them on display on one shelf in my home office. They look to others, I’m sure, like clutter. And the other difficulty for me is minimizing family photos, especially of our blended family of seven kids and ten grandchildren (to say nothing of our beloved parents who left us decades ago). Any ideas for me? Quit feeling guilty, maybe?

  2. If they are physical photos, I recommend scanning them if you have not already (or pay someone to scan them — there are companies that do it). What’s nice is that you can enjoy them on your iPad, or watch them as a slide show on your TV. (You can also upload them into places like Amazon photos or Google photos — which make them pretty easy to search when you are looking for a particular photo. There are other straight backup programs where you can store the files too — just like you would for PDF or other file.)

  3. YES! DO quit feeling guilty. If you love your tea sets, keep them. But if how they look to others is worrying you, maybe you could look online for new ideas for displaying them. Make them look like a carefully curated collection instead of toys you never got around to giving away.
Concerning your family (and any other) photos, weed out any that are redundant, but please please please keep the rest in some form. Seems like nobody appreciates family photos until they don’t have them. And then it’s too late. You can scan them onto photo sticks to take up far less space, and dispose of the hard copies, though I strongly recommend keeping any originals that are very old. Make sure the scanned ones and the originals you keep are carefully labeled, so future generations won’t be wondering who they are.
Frame a few (if they aren’t already) for display. The ones you love best and/or the most interesting ones that can be amazing conversation starters. Put the rest in albums and store them on a closet shelf if you want the out off the way. It’s highly likely that somebody, somewhere down the line, will thank you for it.
