  1. Last year I sent a courier pack of chilled meat (direct from a company I buy meat from) to a family I wasn’t able to see for Christmas. It included meat cuts above their weekly budget, as well as some everyday favorites based on old family recipes. They have a house full of material stuff – but told me it was the best present I’ve ever given them, and it also meant they could invite friends over to enjoy some of the special stuff.

  2. I like the idea of buying a gift connected to charity. Things like buying a goat for a family in a country where people are struggling . Buying seeds , insects nets , access to fresh water …there are many organisations to support like this. Oxfam is one. I personally was thrilled when my mum gave me a card saying that she had donated some ducks to a family, on my behalf ! Also a donation to the many conservation causes , saving a bear from cruelty, sponsoring organisations that save stray dogs , donating to endangered species programs . For me, these are such meaningful gifts that go towards less clutter and changing the world for the better . It feels GREAT!

  3. Several years ago I began giving my siblings gifts they would be able to finish or use up during the year. One year it was a create your own ice cream sundae kit. The next it was several different kinds of soup mixes to try. They all loved it. We are all retired. One sister in law makes homemade blueberry syrup every year for us.

  4. PLEASE, NO MORE CANDLES!!! I have a dog in the house and do NOT use real candles after my neighbors house burned just after Christmas a few years ago. Their dog bumped a table that knocked a candle over & started the fire. I am now going with battery operated candles.

  5. I wish I could discretely send this list to everyone thinking of sending me a gift. Today I received a package filled with items I’m sure was my friend’s clutter passed off to me. Nothing I wanted or could use. I put the entire package in my apartment hallway for others to take. After deep cleaning and decluttering three times, the last thing I need is someone else’s clutter.
