  1. I only have one card and pay it in full monthly. I did not use it for gifts at all this year. I used it once this season to do an online rental cabin because our kids are all flying in from all over the country and my cabin is not big enough for everyone. I have already paid it off. No mortgage, no car payments, and no credit card debt. If we don’t have the cash, we don’t buy it. Life is not worth the stress of being in debt.

  2. I’ve limited myself to supporting my godson’s family. A year of diapers for the twin toddlers, and a chunk of cash for the parents to get anything the babies need. That’s it. Merry Christmas calls to the rest of the family.

  3. I do not have to worry about money because I am privileged because of a lifetime of shopping carefully. I can be very generous but I am very rational. I give advent money with some suggestions as to how I might spend it if I was shopping. I haye shopping and prefer others to choose wisely for themselves. Many of us have points on cards that can translate to gift cards – Aeroplan, Air Miles, Optimum, Scene. Many stores have specific days for discounts for seniors. If Canadian, buy Canadian. Shopping locally to benefit your community is best. I have purchased tickets to events and invited guests to go as my treat. I have a Christmas duotang that helps me prepare keeping my values intact!

  4. I keep a tote in my bedroom that I put things that I find either at sales, yard sales, etc that I know someone in my family would like. When a birthday or holiday comes around, I go “shopping” in my tote first. If I need to add to it I can. Saves a lot of drama at birthday times and I can get stuff throughout the year much less expensively than waiting until the holidays are upon us!
