  1. I can live without some of the essentials above. I couldn’t live happily without my computer or laptop. I’m happier with a big enough screen rather than a tiny phone one, and it’s great to be able to scan print, modify photographs, do spreadsheets, household accounts, banking . . I know phones can do almost all of this, and probably you’d get used to the minimal views, but why should you.
    While I’m ranting, I want to have a go at AI. I want to write what I want to write, how I want to write it, and some intrusive something popping up trying to make me do it its way is just infuriating. I saw an advert today that AI can write condolence notes for you, with all the appropriate phrases to suggest your feelings are in line with cultural expectations . . . how dehumanising. How insulting to the recipient that you can’t be bothered to express your feelings about their loss.
