  2. #5 is the onei can relate to make excuses for not starting and then get frustrated trying to do it in a weekend when there is so much to organize

  3. You’re absolutely right that failure awaits if we try to organize before decluttering. After extensive decluttering in 2024 and 2025, I read your blog to learn how to maintain. I knew how I wanted my home to look and feel so routinely do what must be done to keep it so. it doesn’t require a lot of effort. What makes it easy is that everything I own has a home. After the second declutter I bought the right size (and aesthetically pleasing) containers to store extra bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom linens. I had shelving built into an otherwise useless tiny closet and stored cleaning supplies and random bits like extra shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, toilet paper, plant leaf cleaner, et al. What is not on display is tucked away in containers pleasing to my eyes when I open doors and drawers to grab what I need. I like attractive things. No one sees the storage containers except me. I’m important. Declutter first. Pull out the tape measurer to determine appropriate container sizes for the items you wish to store. Make sure everything you own has a home. And voila. Your home is airy, clean, comfortable, and hopefully your sanctuary.
