  1. I have been working for 12 years for 12 hours plus hours 3 to4days a week. Then was diagnosed with cancer and had to go through getting chemo, radiation, and then immuno therapy.. Then I looked around my house and realized all the clutter that had built up in my house. I am now recovering from the cancer treatment’s and I am not motivated to get started getting rid of the clutter that has build up.

    1. Excellent article! I love to get rid of unnecessary things. You reach a point in life all the
things you though you wanted just suddenly looks like dusty clutter! Give it to those who actually need it!!

    2. Sorry to hear this Mary. One thing that might work is to get 3 large cardboard boxes. Mark them: Donate, Store, Toss. Set them in a convenient, visible area. Start tossing things in them whenever you are up & feel like it until you are done. Best wishes!

  2. I also have gone through cancer treatments. I would say, just my humble opinion, let yourself heal and get any rest you need, before tackling decluttering. Good health and long life to you ! —Lola

  3. Our basement has become a catch-all: my mother’s, his mother’s, our daughters’ from various appartment moves, plus our own things. So I decided a few weeks ago to make Thursdays “Basement Purge Day”. Thurdays we go to the basement and choose at least 6 things (random number choice) to be tossed or donated. Trash is collected on Fridays, so the tossed items immediately get taken out and are gone by the next day. No time to second guess, or think “maybe I’ll need this later”. It’s not much, but it’s quick and doable, and most importantly, repeatable. Baby steps are making a dent!

  4. There’s nothing like hosting a party that motivates me to get my space in shape. I would love to host people more often, but honestly, the thought of UNEXPECTED guests makes me uneasy. I motivate myself out of this by scheduling a party. When I know people are coming over on a set date, it can help me look at my things more objectively the way company might observe it and gives me a timeline for real results. When the party arrives, and things are looking better, it can further motivate me to keep it that way or to keep going to make it even better.
