  1. My daughter recently came home for summer break. She insisted we get rid of lots of stuff. Some I agreed with and some I did not.
There was a nice, but older, tv stand with enclosed storage space. Once we no longer used it for our tv, I used it as a place to put photos on top, and school supplies in the storage area. I loved it!
We also had a novel side/lamp table. My husband loved it.
These are the two things we took out and donated, and wow!, what a difference.

  2. We can get carried away with owning too many plants as well. Plants do serve a purpose, and they give a solitary person something to care for, nurture and attend to. That said, as our lives develop and come back together, especially after a hardship, the plants become a tedious work project in and of themselves.
I had over 100 plants in my sunroom and by clearing out most of them at a yard sale. The room looks bigger and brighter now and I am not enslaved with care for them. Selling them at the end of my driveway for $.50 or a dollar and watching the smiles of the people taking them did me more good than being surrounded by all of that greenery that has served its purpose and now it was time to let go.

  3. I just found out that you can recycle old Crocs. they send you a free mailing bag and you mail a man and they’re gone.

  4. Tonight I filled two Trader Joe’s canvas shopping bags with books to take to Little Free Libraries in my community. I also boxed up about 30 books to recycle. I never thought I’d be one to toss books. I’m a writer. Books are semi-sacred. That said, my home has been completely decluttered and deep cleaned and I do not want this box of books hanging around waiting for someone with a car to relieve me of them. After culling through more than 1200 books, to recycling they must go.

  5. AAARRRGH! I LOVE BOOKS! ANITA, WHERE DID YOU RECYCLE THE BOOKS? where can i rescue them? this has become my biggest vice. i have a home library i share with my neighbors. the free library comes with cookies and juice. i decluttered my basement of all the projects i wanted to do when i got time. i never have time! books are my happy place. there are so many places to go! 🙂

  6. When my husband required physiotherapy, massage and yoga treatment suddenly we had so many things to store in a place that was immediately available. And this is a small flat!
I put ankle weights, small ball and other things for stretching into a basket. There was a stepper which became a handy ledge. A folded old bedcover for massage. There was a respiratory exerciser. At least they were all in one place! Not cluttering up my dressing table! He’s going have this going on for a while. I have added my exercise things to the basket. It’s an incentive for us to be tidy and to exercise together!

  7. Expectations. I had a huge aha moment last week when I expected my friends to read my mind and understand that an event was actually a critical milestone for which they were supposed to show up. Of course no one did because I didn’t make my expectations known. They are my friends. They should know by osmosis.

Luckily after I lashed out and sulked, they gently helped me understand my role in my mess. They also proposed a way to keep me from repeating my behavior. They’re good ducks. All of them. I’m lucky to have them in my life. And, we all celebrated afterward! It was tremendous fun.
